With World Polio Day just passed on October 24th, this is a good time to recap the Rotary Club of Toronto’s Skyline‘s participation in the World’s Biggest Commercial on the END POLIO NOW website to support awareness of Rotary‘s efforts to eradicate polio worldwide.
RCTS held a photo shoot in April of this year and got the majority of it’s membership participating in the World’s Biggest Commercial.
Q: Why the World’s Biggest Commerical?
A: Because the World’s largest health initiative deserves the World’s Biggest Commerical
Because after nearly 30 years, and after immunizing more than 2 billion children against polio, Rotary and its partners are on the brink of making history. We are This Close.
Because when Rotary began the fight in 1985, polio affected 350,000 people, mostly children, in 125 countries every year. Since then, polio has been reduced by more than 99 percent.
Fewer than 700 n ew cases were reported in 2011, and the wild poliovirus today is confined to isolated pockets in only three countries. We truly are This Close to ending polio forever.
But if we don’t finish the fight right now, polio could quickly re-surge, with devastating consequences. More than 10 million children could be paralyzed in the next 40 years. This once-in-a-generation opportunity would be gone forever.
The World’s Biggest Commercial stars thousands of people around the world. Everyday folks from all walks of life — you, for example — together with Nobel laureates, movie stars, famous musicians and community leaders to express a united commitment to End Polio Now.
Each participant’s photo can be found right in the World’s Biggest Commercial (along with thousands of like-minded supporters including Bill Gates, Jackie Chan, Bishop Desmond Tutu, Pau Gasol, Jane Goodall and many more).
Here we present for the first time together, standing unified as Rotarians, all of RCTS‘ photos from the World’s Biggest Commercial. Enjoy seeing your fellow Rotarians and remember that creating awareness for polio eradication is half the battle.
All the photos after the jump!
